For a Minnesota horse farm, Emily Pueringer Design Studio went for a British barn vibe in this mudroom that’s part of a new-build home. Wine red coat cabinets with horseshoe cutouts and V-groove wainscoting topped with a carved rope-like molding detail nod to the equestrian surroundings. Arto Brick makes a durable flooring surface, and botanical wallpaper with deep color adds energy and personality.
7. Cool and Refreshing
On a heavily wooded lot in Highlands, North Carolina, a charming stone house’s side entry opens to this refreshing mudroom by Curated Studio. Blue-gray cabinets complement cool gray tile flooring set in a herringbone pattern. A rich wood-topped bench adds warmth and coordinates with the door. Below is open storage for shoes and boots. Crisp white paneling wraps the room and runs up the ceiling, ensconcing the space in a touch of coastal style.
6. Rosy Greeting
In Rockville, Maryland, Lou Balodemas of Balodemas Architects designed this cheerful mudroom with a splash of warm powdery pink paint (Dusty Mauve by Benjamin Moore). A simple built-in combines a bench and open storage with hooks. Charcoal-colored hexagonal floor tiles create depth and wainscoting adds durability.

For an open entryway into this Ipswich, Massachusetts, home, AG&Co. Interior Design beautifully created a simple area to take off and put on boots, coats and hats. A farmhouse-style bench and industrial coat hooks get the job done — and don’t take away from the stunning reclaimed-wood beams and hardwood flooring.

Jeremy Lanier at ReVision Design/Remodeling updated this Charlotte, North Carolina, mudroom with a combination of open cubbies and closed doors to give the homeowners flexible storage options. A blush-beige paint color on the built-ins and trim plays nicely with gold-and-cream metallic wallpaper and original hardwood flooring.

During a major home renovation in Lexington, Massachusetts, Rachel Brooks of Feinmann created this new mudroom as an essential space for greeting guests. Custom closed storage helps keep weather-related gear out of sight. Inside, rollout trays give easy access to shoes and other items. Glazed blue tiles in a herringbone pattern add a punch of color. White trim pieces support hooks for clothing. And a long custom floating bench topped in beechwood offers plenty of seating space.
2. Creamy and Classic
In San Jose, California, Katelyn Gilmour of KBG Design and Silva Custom Construction created this light and breezy mudroom entry with tall cabinets flanking a rift white oak bench. Interior outlets allow family members to charge devices. The built-ins are painted in Sherwin-Williams’ Natural Choice in a satin sheen. The wall, ceiling and entry door are painted in Cool December by Dunn-Edwards.

Angie Boettner of Distinctive Design Studio created the most-saved mudroom so far this year. Located in Port Washington, Wisconsin, the space features custom cabinetry with ample storage solutions. Boettner, balanced classic white paint and whitewashed brick flooring with warm walnut details. A durable quartz countertop provides a scratch-resistant surface for setting down keys, bags and mail.
